fonts-liberation software package provides Fonts with the same metrics as Times, Arial and Courier, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install fonts-liberation
fonts-liberation is installed in your system.
Make ensure the fonts-liberation package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep fonts-liberation *
You will get with fonts-liberation package name, version, architecture and description in a table
